Comment on How to help prevent sexual harassment in the workplace?

Your post offers valuable insights into the root causes of sexual harassment and the impact it has on individuals and organizations.

I appreciated your discussion of the power dynamics at play in many workplaces, and the ways in which these dynamics can contribute to a culture of harassment. Your emphasis on the need for organizational change, rather than just individual interventions, is an important reminder that addressing sexual harassment requires systemic action.

Your post also offers practical guidance for employers who are looking to create safer and more respectful workplaces. Your emphasis on the importance of clear policies, training, and effective reporting mechanisms are key components of creating a culture that prioritizes the safety and well-being of all employees.

Overall, I found your post to be a valuable resource for anyone who is interested in understanding the complex issue of sexual harassment in the workplace and taking action to prevent it. Thank you for your important work in this area, and for sharing your insights and expertise with the broader community.

I would add that women returners should also be supported back to work because they face double-discrimination of both age and sex - older women who worked, prior to full-time family responsibilites, at professional-level find that they can no longer re-enter at a similar level to their last employment because women already working in these more responsible roles are more valued by employers. However, older (previously professional) women also face obstacles to obtaining lower pay-scale work when returning because they are viewed as too experienced and younger highly competitive women can be quite bullying towards older women working a the same level or even under them. There is a working-women's culture which devalues women who have taken time-out of employment to care for others.

I found this guidance extremely useful - practical and easy to read guidance that also has relevance for NHS and many other organisations.
The glossary is particularly helpful and recognises many managers and employees won't necessarily have the familiarity with concepts and terms that those of us working on GBV have. Many thanks!

Hi there, the vast majority of Scottish public bodies already report their gender pay gap under the public sector equality duty, which has been in force for four years. Under the Scottish specific duties, listed public bodies have to publish their pay gap, an equal pay statement (including occupational segregation data), gender-disaggregated employee data and equality outcomes. You can read more about Close the Gap's work on supporting employers to meet the duty here: https://www.closethegap.org.uk/news/blog/new-guidance-for-public-sector-employers-on-gender-and-public-sector-equality-duty/

Women usually have to undergo various levels of discrimination at work. It may be the 21st century, but women are still under this cloud that labels them as less capable than men.
With such a background it is surprising that a higher number of women have come to the forefront as high ranking officers in many industries nowadays. However, gender inequality still has a long way to go. Hopefully, our daughters would find a world better welcoming than ours.

Great blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers?
I’m hoping to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any tips? Many thanks!
