The Equality Act 2010 was enacted on 8 April 2010, and simplifies and strengthens existing equalities law, although equal pay provisions remain largely unchanged. The pages within this section provide details on the predessesor to the Equality Act, the Equal Pay Act 1970. There is also information on the specific duties in Scotland which were created by secondary legislation in the Equality Act 2010 (Specific Duties) (Scotland) Regulations 2012. They came into force on 27 May 2012. The public sector equality duty replaces the previous public sector equality duties: the Race Equality Duty (2002), the Disability Equality Duty (2006), and the Gender Equality Duty (2007).
